1. black sand: a heavy, glossy, partly magnetic mixture of fine sands. Black sand is an indicator of the presence of gold or other precious metals.

2. panner: a container in which gold, or other heavy and valuable metal, is separated from gravel or other substances by agitation.

3. corkscrew jack: a long-handled chisel with a double-sided handle, used for screwing into the ground to dig out veins of wire gold.
