Dear Friend,

There is a place where justice is served down the barrel of a Winchester. Where arguments are settled at the point of a dagger. Where destinies unfold in the distant reaches of the universe. It's the Stories from the Golden Age which bring the adventure to you and put you in the middle of the action.

These tales possess unparalleled authenticity, told by a man who had made three Pacific crossings and logged a quarter million miles by the time he was eighteen, garnering experiences which made it into his stories imbuing them with life.

But which stories can you get right now to get transported to another place and time?

The first five titles in the Stories from the Golden Age Series are now available:

ADVENTURE: UNDER THE BLACK ENSIGN

Tom Bristol barely escapes an unjust death sentence aboard the HMS Terror when the ship is attacked and overtaken by pirates. Bristol eagerly joins the pirates but is soon stranded on a desert island for stopping a pirate mutiny and harboring a woman onboard. When Lady Jane Campbell joins Tom at sea, things really set sail in this swashbuckling adventure.

SCIENCE FICTION: THE GREAT SECRET

Fanner Marston is a man whose greed and lust for power drives him through a blistering desert to the legendary city of Parva, where a secret awaits that will give him absolute control over all the universe. Also includes: Space Can, The Beast and The Slaver.

MYSTERY: SPY KILLER

Falsely accused of murder and grand larceny, Kurt Reid flees to Shanghai. After rescuing a White Russian spy, he's captured by the Chinese and forced into the cloak and dagger world of espionage and intrigue, where everything and everyone are not what they appear to be.

FANTASY: IF I WERE YOU

Circus dwarf Little Tom Little learns from a set of ancient books on black magic how to switch bodies. When he jumps into the body of a lion tamer, he finds himself caught in the center ring surrounded by dozens of savage cats and quickly realizes, his craving for height just may have led him to a gruesome death. Also includes: The Last Drop.

WESTERN: BRANDED OUTLAW

Lee Weston is blamed for rustling cattle, which he's almost lynched for. Determined to find the killer of his father he gets double-crossed and framed for shooting the father of the only girl he looked at more than once and now the whole town is in pursuit of him!

These stories are not only available in beautiful quality paperback format but each book is recorded as an audiobook in an unprecedented style making this a true "theatre-of-the-mind" experience. The recordings were done with multi-cast performers, state-of-the-art sound effects, and original musical compositions, creating an atmosphere of authenticity that brings each of the stories to life.

Now, you're probably wondering how Mr. Hubbard came to be such a versatile and prolific writer who routinely produced between seventy-five and a hundred thousands words a month, with a 90% acceptance rate from publishers—first draft, first submission. As editors told readers in the glory days of American pulp fiction:

He writes the way he does, brothers, because he's been there, seen it and done it!

He not only became a blood-brother of the Blackfeet Indian at a very young age, the young Ron also undertook expeditions such as one to the Caribbean aboard the four-masted schooner Doris Hamlin, from which would spring his later sea adventures like The Pearl Pirate. His seafaring stories discarded buccaneering lore and replaced it with sharp attention to detail, accurate settings and history, and characters of substance, not pretext. Consider Under the Black Ensign, which portrayed the true nature of a pirate, not as a marauding stereotype, but as a refugee from a brutal and chaotic life at sea who found a more organized and even dignified life.

In time, Ron would hold a rare Master Mariner's license to pilot any vessel, of any tonnage in any ocean. He was also an engineer and ethnologist who led expeditions to study twenty-one different cultures. The simple fact is that all of his adventuring gave him a profound insight into the real world that leant a uniquely authentic quality to his fiction.

He also was a leader among his peers, serving a term as president of the American Fiction Guild, whose membership was a veritable pulp hall of fame, including the likes of Lester Dent (Doc Savage), Walter Gibson (The Shadow) and Dashiell Hammett (The Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man).

What others are saying.

"There are bits and pieces from Ron's work that became part of the language in ways that very few other writers managed. I can still remember scenes from Hubbard's stories when I've forgotten most of the other things I was reading.... He had a gift for inventing colorful pictures that still stay with me.... Stories with these frequently memorable lines and quotable things. Pictures that stayed in your head."
—Frederik Pohl, distinguished author, editor and critic

"L. Ron Hubbard was only twenty-five when he wrote the Hell Job stories about the most dangerous professions a man can put his hand to and it was evident in each of them that he had done his research by living those jobs himself or finding out from the men who did.

Whatever the Hell Job, every detail rings true.

But what is extraordinary about these stories is that the characters are authentic, too. Somehow Ron knew things that twenty-five-year-olds weren't supposed to know—how men thought, what was in their hearts and the goals they fought for. And he knew the time when you had to take a beating if you were going to win out in the end.

And he knew how cold it is on the mountain, inside a man as well as out."
—Richard Kyle, Editor of Argosy Magazine

"The fascinating thing—to me—is that L. Ron Hubbard's stories, published 50 and 60 years ago, are not dated in style, content or language. They are fresh and interesting for times right now as they were when he conceived them, so I, for one, am very glad to see them back in print again."
—Anne McCaffrey,
Author and Science Fiction and Fantasy Grand Master

"L. Ron Hubbard wrote some of the most gripping and imaginative fantasy stories of the Golden Age of Pulps—Hubbard's work has influenced generations of writers, and his stories are as lively and startling as anything being written today."
—Tim Powers,
NYT
bestselling author and two-time World Fantasy Award Winner

"L. Ron Hubbard was one of many authors who inspired me to write, and now as a published author with nearly 20 books under my belt I still find I enjoy his writing as much as I did when I was a kid."
—Jon Guenther, author

"I'm reading Battlefield Earth now and I'm loving it! I'm approaching the end and have sadly discovered that this is one of 'those' books. In other words, a book that I don't want to end! Hubbard has created a great sci-fi tapestry, full of the high adventure that I love so much! Can't wait for more of Hubbard's classic stories to be reprinted in your series."
—Eric J. Johnson, Pittsburgh, PA

"I read the first couple of chapters and could not believe what I read. The words were like gold. The characters were so three dimensional. I took the book everywhere I went and read it every chance I could get. What impressed me was the easy and fluent way L. Ron Hubbard brought these characters to life. The descriptions were so realistic you could see and almost feel them. I have read the book two more times, not to mention all the other books by L. Ron Hubbard that I've read. When you find an author like Hubbard, the others seem to pale by comparison."
—Mike McCrory, salesman in Brandon, MS
