So earlier this year I submitted a short story written in the second person POV to WOTF. I got an Honorable Mention for it, with a note from K. D. saying to keep trying, and I'll have better luck using 1st or 3rd POV.
Well, I'm now proud to mention that "She's All Light" will be published on January 8, 2010 in Daybreak Magazine, a website that is promoting Shine An Anthology of Optomistic SF. And, it's my first professional sale to boot.
The best thing is that one of the stories on the website was written by no other than K. D. herself. It's pretty good too--called "The Gender Plague". Go check it out, then come back on January 8 to check out my story. Whoo-hoo!

Congratulations on your sale!
And that's just another example of why none of us should feel crushed when our story or art doesn't win a given contest -- Because it can still be a wonderful story with success waiting for it elsewhere! _________________

(hands in the air, raise the roof!)
Very well done. And another example of why nobody should trunk things before they've truly had a chance to go the full round of the marketplace.

In a similar vein I just sent off my 2Q09 semi-finalist story (revised slightly in light of KD's critique) to JJA's new ezine Lightspeed. If he bounces it I'll try Interzone. (Unfortunately I tried Analog and Asimov's before WOTF, can't send it to them again.) _________________ -- Alastair |
