"Do you mean, For ... or by?" he asked, eyes narrowing in dim suspicion. Wink

An octupus freshening up in a rest room, preparing to be served as sushi.

One of my brothers asked me if I'd washed my hands after I returned from the rest room to the kitchen to finish dressing the Christmas turkey. His wife said, "Pay him no mind--" I said, "Of course I did. I didn't want to get any raw turkey juice on me." "Oh. Nice comeback," the wife said. "You would know what a smart alec your brother is." My brother giggled nervously and prompty changed the subject.

The dilemma of the questionable restroom indeed.

'when I think of you I touch myself ...' -- Divinyls

In many places around here, you wash your hands ... and then it's a "pull" door out, so you have to touch the door handle to get out ... the same door handle that everyone else who DOESN'T wash their hands going in or out uses to get out too. I mean ... somebody DESIGNS the restrooms, right? Somebody pays for that design. Don't they think?

The flipside to that obliviousness to disease was when I went into a Wendy's and ordered some stuff to go.

They've got a big pump-bottle of hand dis-infectant gel sitting there for customers to use ... cool. Thoughtful. You FIGHT the H1N1 !!!

But then the guy hands me back my change, and it's just sort of cold and wet (no doubt someone had passed it to them with a snowy glove or sumthing, and it's still cold and wet. Clammy and unhealthy feeling) ... so without thinking I reach over and squirt the disinfectant on my hands and I'm cleaning them off vigorously like a racoon washing some food in the river.

And the guy's staring at me, gives me this look like: you racist bast*rd! We touched hands ... so now that's going to kill you?! Confused

I just felt bad. I felt like no disinfectant gel could clean off the stain on my soul his look gave me.

They do now, mostly. Modern BOCA building codes require rest room and external exit doors to open outward. Lean into it to open. Grandfathered older doors still open inward. I grab a handful of paper napkins before I use rest rooms with hot air hand dryers, so I don't have to touch faucet or door handles after I've washed my hands.

We've gone from discussing the "hinge points" of a story ...

... to which direction doors "hinge" open or closed in plague-infested (or octopus-haunted) restrooms.

It is good.

Yeah, Jloonam occasionally busts out with some hilarious lines. It makes up for the other times when I read his posts and end up feeling stupid.

The BOCA thing ... I was on the floor. Laughing. With the octopus.

Humor=aprodisiac, what can I say?

This Saturday night, maybe a little dinner, some dancing, who knows where it might lead? They say once you go cephalopod, you won't go back ...

It's the tentacles.

That just made me cringe.

Are you sure it wasn't .... shivers of delight ??? Smile

Naw, really ... I put the pic of the octopus up because I thought it was so disturbing too. When I was a kid, friends had caught a little octopus at the beach and brought it home for their aquarium. The next day they found it lying dead on the table. The image of the poor guy crawling out of its tank and trying to escape ... has always made me very sad. To be born free in the ocean and then die on a table fourteen storeys in the air ... there's tragedy there.

Of course, if it had made it off the table and jumped off the balcony, and killed a pedestrian on the sidewalk below ... how would you explain that to the next of kin?

"Your Uncle Miguel was killed ... by a suicidal octopus."

"But ... my uncle didn't swim."

"Well, the octopus sure as hell couldn't fly."
